Have they had dogs in the past?
What happened to them?
Were there any bad feelings towards past dogs?
What training methods were used with past or existing dogs?
How did they handle bad behaviors?
Will they attend training classes with their new dog?
Have they ever crate-trained?
Do they understand the purpose of crate training?
Where will they leave the dog when they are gone? Talk about dogs being stolen from yards if left outside.
Do fence gates lock or could a dog easily be stolen from this yard?
Do they know never to let a new dog off-leash?
If theirs fencing, is it secure?
Are they close busy streets?
How will they give the dog exercise?
If there is a yard without a fence, how will they make it safe?
Do all exterior doors close or latch so a dog can't easily get out?
Does their insurance company allow Pit bulls?
Do the kids want a dog?
Are they excited about getting a new dog?
How do they act with existing dogs or other pets?
If children act badly during the visit, how do the parents handle the situation?
Do the children understand they must keep doors and gates latched, and always use caution whenever opening doors or gates?
Is the children's behavior a concern in placing a dog there?
Do parents know that no matter how wonderful the dog; never leave it alone with children?
Do they look healthy and well behaved?
Do they have existing dogs on heartworm preventative? If not, why?
How have their pets reacted to new dogs?
Talk about it taking many weeks or months for an existing cat and new dog to accept life together and the two should not be left alone until they are absolutely sure their relationship is safe.
Does everyone in the home seem to want a Pit Bull?
Are there any allergies to cats or dogs?
Are their any physical limitations or conditions, which should be considered in finding the right Pit bull?
What are the expectations of a "rescue" dog?
How did they react to the dog you brought?
Have they requested a dog of a certain age? Why?
Do they want a specific gender? Why?
Talk about your adoption agreement and discuss the adoption fee.
Explain that it will take time for the rescue dog to adjust to the new home.
Would they volunteer or foster in the future?
Talk about education (feeding, obedience training, exercise, etc).
Suggest local resources for obedience classes and enrolling in training as soon as possible.
Talk about what behavior to expect from Pit Bulls, especially that their know for dog-aggression.
