How to list your puppy Pitbulls for sale on Milwaukee Craigslist.
Rescueapitbull’s hope is that you will never have to list your puppy Pitbulls for sale in. If the day comes and you have to surrender your dog, or rehome a family member’s dog or a friend’s dog Craigslist is a decent place to do it. Craigslist has a very well educated group of dog lovers that monitor the list very well and usually get the bad dog people off the list via the “posting has been flagged” option which can be applied to a post that has been considered suspicious. The post is taken off the board all together. There are a limited number of times you can post, so it is important that you have your stuff together before you post.
Sign up for an account it is free and makes posting a lot easier.
You need to use the term “rehome” when listing your dog and you need to have a rehoming fee, you can not give your dog away for free, or it could become what is called a bait dog. People involved with dog fighting will look for free dogs that they will have their dogs practice attacking. They then disregard the bait dog when it is dead or almost dead and no longer any good to them. When you meet the potential parent and you want to waive the fee that is fine but you can not advertise “ dog….free to a good home” the craigslist dog community will flag you.
1) Do the dog world a favor make sure your dog is fixed and has it’s shots.
2) Tell the truth about the dog how is it with kids, dogs, and cats, don’t lie. This will help to ensure a permanent placement.
3) Use your email address and phone number as this helps screen out frauds if they are dealing with a real person.
4) Do not put “ I paid $300 for the dog and got it fixed so I want $500” say “there is a rehoming fee of $500.” Do not expect to get back what you put into the dog. It was your pet.
5) Beware of the reseller. Someone who buys dogs off craigslist and resells them for profit. Screen people by asking:
A) What is the name of your vet?
B) Do you have kids?
C) Do you have other pets?
D) Do they have enough time for it?
E) Have you had pets before and what is your experience with them.
6) Arrange for you to take the dog to their house so you can see where it is going.
7) Make sure you are comfortable with leaving the dog.
8) Do not fool yourself, this is very traumatic for your dog so send familiar objects with the dog such as the crate, toys, food, blanket, and bed.
9) Follow up in a couple days to see how things are going. Always agree to take the dog back if things do not work out. This prevents the dog from going who knows where.
10) Lastly, if this happened because of something you did wrong, make sure it does not happen to another dog of yours, learn from your mistakes.
