What is a Wisconsin Pit bull Rescue and Adoption Group?

Pit bull rescue in Wisconsin is a person or group of people, who rescue only pit bulls and pit bull mix.  They are well educated about the pit bull breed and care about their welfare. Pit bulls are often taken from public or private shelters.  The pit bulls might be picked up as a stray by animal control or surrendered by their owners.  People give up their pit bulls for many reasons. Rescues also make house calls and take pit bull dogs directly from their owners when the owner can't keep the dog. There are many ways a pit bull may find his way into rescue.

Pit bull get rescued from all types of backgrounds.  Some, through no fault of their own, find themselves homeless. A pit bull's owner dies or moves somewhere and can't have pit bulls or they are not suitable to the new home. Cute puppy pit bulls bought on impulse, with no thought of what it would be when it grew up. Temperament problems that could have been easily fixed when the dog was young, were allowed to continue until the pit bull dog became a serious problem. Many times a pit bull is just not the right breed of dog for that person or that particular family.

Pit bulls that come into purebred pit bull rescues are all spayed or neutered before adopting so they can't be used for breeding .This would only add to the problem of too many homeless pit bulls that need new homes.  A spayed or neutered pit bull is often healthier and usually will live longer, shots are brought up to date on a pit bull rescue dog and a medical and temperament test is done.   Some are rescued in terrible condition.  Many pit bulls were strays living in the street, and some come from neglectful or cruel homes. Fleas, ear infections, and skin problems are common. They are checked for fleas, ticks, worms and other parasites.

If you choose a pit bull from rescue you are saving a life.  Treat the pit bull breed and the individual pit bull with care and know your responsibility to this pit bull before you get it.  A pit bull can bring great joy to you and your family for many years to come.

If you are thinking about rescuing a pit bull make sure and check out your local laws. If you are going through a breed specific rescue I'm pretty sure they know. If you are going through a non specific dog rescue they may not know.

What is Breed Specific Law?

Breed specific laws are an ordinance on a specific dog breed. There are different types of (BSL) in Wisconsin the "breed ban" and the “special regulation” seems to be the most popular. Activist for breed-specific laws want to limit the public to Pit bulls by controlling the ownership. The idea of breed-specific law is that more government can prevent Pit bull bites or significantly reduce them. They have created an image by tying words to Pit bulls like attack, kill, fatal give me a break this is just another act of government trying to control you.

The way most dog laws are written now they punish a Pit bull owner after the fact. Thanks to the mainstream media (it’s funny how dogs “bite” but Pit bulls “attack” or better yet "viciously attack”) and other radicals   have decided to start a movement to regulate Pit bulls saying that they have a  “genetically violent” their trying to sell this as bite prevention.

Breed ban prohibits ownership of a Pit bull, which means you can’t license a Pit bull. They were trying to pass one in West Allis, WI it says that people that already have Pit bulls can keep them. The dogs need to be spay/neutered within 30 days. They say this will reduce the number of “dangerous dogs. ”People who own dangerous dogs will not license them. I would like to know how many Pit bulls seized by police were licensed. Are they going to drive around checking people for a dog license?

This is the one I like “dangerous dogs” where the dog dose not even have to do anything this is another way to control Pit bull dog owners. This is the one the City of Milwaukee has. Here is a few “requirements” anyone under the age of 16 can not hold the leash of a Pit bull without written permission from the department of neighborhood services, muzzling when off-property. If you live in Milwaukee and you are thinking about rescuing a Pit bull read the rules. You need a special on-property confinement pen and posting "dangerous dog" warning.

Another is the spay/neuter Pit bull law I’m not so against this one because this one you can at least build a solid case for. If your Pit bull is a pet do the dog, you and everyone else a favor. Get it fixed.
